About Us

Who are we?

We are a group of volunteers who are committed to ending the unnecessary, ineffective, toxic, costly fogging of mosquitoes in Santa Clara County.

Why are we doing this?

Santa Clara County Vector Control (funded by your County Parcel Tax dollars) has chosen to spray pesticides (Zenivex E4) using trucks with fogging machines that drive through various cities in the county at night.  They claim this will prevent mosquitoes from passing the West Nile Virus (WNV)  to humans. However, there is NO epidemic of WNV and NO deaths due to WNV have been reported in 2014 in this County.  Only 1% of the mosquitoes test positive for WNV.  But after finding only 1 positive mosquito, they will spray 4 miles of our homes, parks, schools with 30 GALLONS of  pesticide, equaling 9 POUNDS of synthetic nerve toxin.  A 2006 Harvard study has shown that fogging pesticides is INEFFECTIVE at controlling the spread of WNV.

What are we doing?

We are letting residents know about the upcoming pesticide foggings via this blog, Facebook, email, neighborhood groups, distributing flyers, farmers' markets tables, and protests.
We are doing research on sustainable, ecological ways to avoid using more pesticides on our planet.
We hope to have enough volunteers soon to educate residents about clearing standing water  EVERY week to stop the mosquito larval cycle.  Residents should also learn how to protect themselves from mosquito bites.  Using natural essential oil repellents, wearing long sleeves/pants, avoiding the outdoors at dawn & dusk, and ensuring window/door screens are closed and functioning.

How can I help?

You can help by contacting all the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors (who serve as the Board of Directors for Vector Control) and let them know that you want the pesticide fogging to stop.
